Twenty-five thousand delegates

September 28, 2026

Riyadh hosts the 25th WPC Energy Congress from 11 to 15 October at the Riyadh Front Exhibition and Conference Center, the first time Saudi Arabia has held it, with more than 25,000 delegates expected alongside 100 energy ministers, 500 chief executives, 800 speakers and 1,000 companies across more than 50,000 square metres of exhibition space. The congress falls against projected global energy investment of $3.4 trillion in 2026, of which about $2.2 trillion is directed to clean energy, grids, storage and efficiency.

Arab News

The primary value is access, not exhibition. Suppliers planning to attend should focus their week on engaging with the 500 chief executives rather than on their exhibition stand.

More jobs, slightly more jobless

Unemployment among Saudis rose to 6.5% in Q2 2026 from 6.4% in Q1, according to GASTAT's Labour Force Survey released on 30 September, down from 6.8% in Q2 2025. In the same quarter, Saudi employment in the private sector rose 2.2% to a record 2.65 million, adding 56.5 thousand jobs in three months.

Al Eqtisadiah

Both unemployment and private-sector hiring increased during the same quarter, indicating that the headline rate reflects not only job demand but also the influx of new Saudi job-seekers.

$167 billion, and whose calendar it sits on

Kamco Invest puts Saudi bond and sukuk maturities for 2026–2030 at $167.4bn, the largest in the GCC, 64.5% of it dollar-denominated, with 73.5% of the corporate share held by banks and financial institutions.

Arab News

When we opened Issue 01 with record credit of SR3.2tn, that was the top of the curve. The banks have their own maturities to meet now; price anything you plan to borrow for off the next two years of lending, not the last two.

Six months to fund $5 billion

DataVolt expects to close financing on its Saudi AI data centre pipeline — $5 billion total — within six months, with a 1.5GW facility at Neom whose first phase is due operational in 2028. Its Uzbekistan site TAS-1 is raising up to $150 million against a $250 million project cost, including $78 million from the EBRD on a 12-year non-recourse term; the first 6MW phase has under 10% of capacity left. Parent Vision Invest manages more than $95 billion of infrastructure assets.

AGBI

The Uzbekistan deal is the tell. A 12-year non-recourse structure with a development bank anchoring it is the template they'll try to replicate at Neom and 1.5GW is roughly twenty times the scale, which is where the template gets tested.
